Top Ten DVR Tips

1. Before configuring your DVR on a local network, installers should note the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and software ports to be programmed.

2. Searching for files on your DVR can be modified by adjusting the file length...shorter files take up less space on a disk and are easier to review.

3. Conserve hard drive space by using alarm or event triggered recording.

4. Set the correct date and time upon initial installation and after power failures to avoid confusion when searching for specific events.

5. You can adjust the brightness/contrast settings in our DVR to fit any particular setting. Always consider lighting as a major factor in your overall picture quality. Avoid placing cameras under direct sunlight.

6. DVRs can be remotely viewed over the Internet without using a static public IP, using Network Address Translation (NAT) and a Dynamic Domain Name service.

7. Never place the DVR in a high temperature location; excessive heat may cause premature product failure.

8. Substandard video signals may not be recognized by a DVR. Excessive cable lengths between camera and DVR, poor quality connectors, or improper cable type may cause low quality video signals.

9. Connecting a DVR to a UPS power supply will help to prevent downtime during power interruption.

10. Remember to backup an event as soon as possible after it occurs to prevent the loss of valuable information.
